Golf
The 18-hole championship course at 7,000 feet on the Eburru Range is both challenging and exciting. Sitting on the Mau Escarpment in the Great rift valley, the course commands stunning vistas of Lake Naivasha, Mount Longonot, the Kinangop Range and Aberdare Mountains. The golf resort is famous for one the longest holes in Kenya – the par 5 – 17th signature at 598 metres. The well watered golf course has contoured greens built to USGA specs with tiffgreen grass. The three teeing positions and the fairways are planted to the indigenous Kikuyu grass which remain green and lush throughout the year. All golf holes are well bunkered, and there are five water features on the course. The air is fresh, temperatures range between 16º – 34ºc. Rains are generally at night and people play golf the year round 12 hours a day.
Golf safaris
Golfers give right of way to the wild animals who have taken residence on the lush fairways and tiny islets in the ponds. Flocks of black-headed oriole, Fischers Lovebirds and Egyptian geese sun themselves on the greens without batting an eyelid at the golfers. Set on the slopes of a small dormant volcano with unspoilt scenery in all directions, most holes on this course enjoy stunning views of mountains, plains, lakes and both escarpments of the Rift Valley itself. The 18-hole course is around the Great Rift Valley Lodge and along the fairways are 80 private homes.
Wildlife
There is rich birdlife on the course and true to Kenya’s reputation as the “birthplace of Safari” guests will even see a visiting zebra wandering across the fairways. With every inch of the 6,580-yard course looking out over the shimmering expanse of the world’s largest valley, this is clearly a course for golfers who like to reflect seriously on their game.
