About the hotel
Welcome to the last limb of Arabuko forest facing the wonderful National marine park in Malindi, on the coast of Kenya. Just 15km south of the White Elephant is possible to meet herds of elephants and to the north at the delta of the Sabaki River, at the same distance, crocodiles and hippos. Born in 1984 from the idea of the artist Armando Tanzini to create a marriage between nature and art, the lodge can accommodate more than 80 people in a natural environment where many animal species play, such as green vervet, the eagles of sea and the sacred ibis. Natural elements such as wood and coral fossil, chosen to create the architecture of the place, they manage to blend in a secret garden.
Malindi
Malindi is the biggest town on the North Coast of the Kenyan Shoreline. Just about 120km North of Kenya’s port city of Mombasa. It is the most scenic town with warm sandy beaches, High Sand dunes and close to a vibrant River Ecosystem
History
Malindi and Alexandria of Egypt were the 2 most important cities in Africa. Between 1200 and 1400 China received a giraffe as a gift from Malindi which was mistaken for a unicorn and treated as a propitious animal, creating the basis for the friendly and lasting exchange between the 2 peoples, which still exists today. The explorer Vasco de Gama arrived there in 1498 and thanks to the advice of the navigators of Malindi was able to reach India.
Birth of the hotel
The not yet violated nature of the place and the countless and various human characters from all over the world seemed to Armando Tanzini an irresistible appeal of the abandonment to the natural rhythms of life. The rustle of the palm trees moved by the wind, the sounds of animals, the drums announcing the births and marriages of the tribe, the realisation that this was the place where the human experiment of the Rift valley began, that is the place where man has made his 1st appearance and where he oscillates between visible and invisible, convinced him that he had not arrived in Africa but had returned.
Double room
Luxurious, air-conditioned room with African-style décor featuring a private bathroom with a shower. It is equipped with a single double bed, bidet, free toiletries, towels, fan, air-condition, fridge, seating unit, balcony with sofa bed, safe box and a dressing mirror. All the rooms have a garden view.
