Campi ya Kanzi Amboseli
Campi ya Kanzi is an award-winning boutique ecolodge in the Chyulu hills of southern Kenya. This camp of the hidden treasure in Ernest Hemingway’s Green hills of Africa is the only safari lodge on a Maasai-owned reserve spanning 283,000 acres of pristine wilderness.
Our story
It really began in the 60’s, when a 4 year old Luca wanted to impress his dad and slept all alone in a tent in the family vineyards. He wanted to prove he could go on safari! Luca came to Kuku group ranch, the Maasai 283,000 acres reservation where Campi ya Kanzi is, in 1975 when he was just 11 years old. Twenty years later he came back with his then girlfriend, now wife, Antonella. Together they engaged the local Maasai landlords and formed a unique team, creating Campi ya Kanzi. As Campi ya Kanzi is a partnership with the local community, by choosing it for your African safari, you will not only enjoy a unique and pristine wilderness and amazing wildlife, but you’ll actively protect them and help the Maasais.
Conservation
Why should conservation be of any concern or interest to you? After all a safari is a holiday and you want to have a peaceful moment of relaxation. Conservation should be of your concern for a simple reason. If you want African wilderness to survive and be there for your next safari, and certainly for the safari your children will want to enjoy, you better think about it. And do something about it. Chose us for your safari and you will protect African wilderness, wildlife and the Maasai culture. In Campi ya Kanzi you will not find a better choice of responsible tourism in Africa. The lodge founding principle is to prove to the Maasai landlords that wilderness with thriving wildlife is worth protecting, because it pays dividends.
The trust funds
The funds are earmarked for wildlife pays, a program where all losses caused by wildlife to the Maasai livestock are reimbursed, if predators are not killed. As a result this is the only place in Africa where the lions are not only thriving, but increasing. The trust has been securing payment for ecosystem services that enable it to employ nearly 300 Kenyans, offering  services to the Maasais.
Accommodation
The tented cottages and the suites are located, with ample distance from one to the other, to guarantee every guest’s privacy. Kanzi house is composed by a Villa with 4 bedrooms and by the pool cottage.  They can be booked individually. The whole of Kanzi house can also be booked in exclusivity.
Kanzi house and pool cottage
Kanzi House is an exclusive villa available to larger groups and families who would like to stay under one roof and dine privately. It can be booked only by one party at a time for a minimum of three nights. Or it can be booked individually: the pool cottage for a couple, the private villa for up to four guests.
Safari
If your concept of luxury safari is based on plunge pools, spas, fancy lighting, marble in the bathrooms, Wifi in the wilderness and the associated unsustainable uses of generators and of water, Campi ya Kanzi is not the product for you. We believe in a different type of luxury: a gin and tonic on a lookout hill in front of Kilimanjaro, with your Maasai tracker, in 283,000 acres of wilderness all for yourself.
Horseback riding
Imagine Mount Kilimanjaro wrapped in a soft, purple light with the snow on top reflecting the first sun of the morning. Â Listen to Africa as she wakes up at dawn. Â Birds are singing, zebras are snorting, and the wind is whistling through the acacias. You are in the middle of it all, riding a horse through a herd of hartebeest. Â This magical experience will remain with you forever. After your ride, raise a toast to Nature as you sip champagne at a peaceful bush breakfast. Horseback riding is reserved only to experienced riders, because of wildlife. If you do not feel experienced enough, we can ride within the camp compound.
Yoga and meditation
Detach from everyday stresses and indulge in the wonders of the landscape. This practice is a true marriage of yoga and a traditional African Safari adventure. You practice in the morning and/or in the afternoon, without limiting your safari activities. We offer these yoga classes: asana, pranayama, and meditation. All yoga classes are guided by our certified resident yoga teacher, who is registered under the Yoga Alliance and has developed a deep practice for several years. Collaborative retreats are also created with other yoga teachers when requested. All the classes are driven in such a way to accommodate all levels and encourage all who participate to breathe with mindfulness and move with intention. There isn’t a place more paradisiacal than with Mount Kilimanjaro as your backdrop while you move and breathe through yoga poses!
Transcendental meditation
Transcendental Meditation (TM) is a simple, natural, effortless procedure practiced 20 minutes twice each day, while sitting comfortably with the eyes closed. It’s not a religion, philosophy, or lifestyle. It is the most widely practiced, most researched, and most effective method of self-development. Our teacher has more than two decades experience and in three days will teach you how to meditate. The course takes just an hour a day and will not limit your safari activities. TM technique develops a healthy, creative, peaceful individual. Kilimanjaro and the Green Hills of Africa are the perfect setting where to get in touch with your soul…
