Bird Watching

The Great Rift Valley
This lake and park is set in Kenya’s Rift Valley, a natural fault in the earth’s crust which bisects Kenya. Its wide valleys have become the grassland home of grazing herds and therefore the kingdom of the predators. Extinct volcanic craters can be seen at Longonot, Suswa, and Menengai. Volcanic hot springs and geysers can be found at Hell’s Gate – all of which are near enough to this lodge to visit. The Rift Valley also has agriculturally rich soil, which is perfect for vegetables and also flowers. We fly out Kenyan roses, carnations and other tropical flowers like alstroemeria to the Dutch flower markets, and you can find the largest spray carnation farm in the world here. Flamingo Watch
Situated at the heart of the Rift Valley, the Lake Nakuru national park is home to one of the most amazing ornithological spectacles in the world – the flight of the flamingos! This park is host to over 450 species of birds and it is possible to spot many without moving from your own balcony. But of all the birds which consider this park their home, none is more spectacular or more awe-inspiring or unforgettable, than the great mass of pink flamingos which ring the lake, constantly fluttering and flying about, feeding on the algae in these rich alkaline waters. This is home for the largest flamingo population in the world and, every year after the long rains, the flamingos perform a mating dance – a seemingly orchestrated spectacle which is a truly amazing to watch.
Rhino Sanctuary
The park is a sanctuary to the highly-endangered black Rhino and abounds with other game such as buffalos, lions and the elusive leopard.
